Webkubuntu-desktop is not the entire desktop. It is a meta-package. Its removal does not nuke the desktop at all. A bug, to be sure, and one that could potentially cause problems at the next release upgrade down the road iirc. (I am not sure if this is even a thing in these modern times ).
